Think Dirty June’s Limited Edition Beauty Box Review

If you have not downloaded the Think Diry App, do it now, it’s honestly a wealth of information right at your fingertips. It allows consumers to scan the barcodes of their favourite personal care products to learn more about what’s in them and potential health impacts of those ingredients. Once the app is downloaded on your phone, you can scan product barcodes. If it’s included in the Think Dirty database, the app will list the product ingredients as well as a “Dirty Meter” rating that offers additional information on the ingredients and potential health impacts. The app will also suggest “cleaner” options, products that get the job done without all the carcinogens. Think Dirty empowers and educates consumers on the cosmetics industry by allowing them to make an informed decision on what products to purchase. #WishIThoughtOfThat

Cudos to the founder, who is Canadian BTW!

Think Dirty’s Limited Edition June Curated Beauty Box reads like the who’s who of the natural skincare and homecare world, each box comes with 9 hand-picked and clean rated products. I love each on of them and am happy to say that I am trying (and loving) them all for the first time.

Rocky Mountain Soap Company Tea Tree Deodorant

I could write a whole blog on why you need to switch out your drugstore deodorant asap. For one, many of them are filled with aluminum which is toxic and a known carcinogen that directly affects the breasts. Along with aluminum comes triclosan, parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol and fragrance, none of which should be in our bodies. I’ll write up a more in-depth post on deodorants.

Rocky Mountain Soap Company Tea Tree Deodorant is really good, I am always a bit nervous when trying a new (natural) deodorant, stinky pits, no thanks! I’ve been using Kaia Naturals Charcoal Detox for about 6 months now (review coming soon), it took me a while to transition, but I have to say, that was not the case with this one. I love the stick applicator, it glides on well and dries pretty quickly. If you are a big sweater the tea tree oil is going to be perfect for you, it has antibacterial properties that will fight off odor. It does not leave a white, thick residue on my clothing like other natural deodorants with baking soda do. If you are looking to make the transition, this is an excellent place to start.

*if you don’t like tea tree, try the Lavender.

LUMIONskin Oxygen Serum + HOCL

This is a new brand for me, it’s a very lightweight serum that dries very quickly and left my face feeling hydrated and fresh. I’m intrigued by the fact that they have only two products, a mist, and a serum and that the ingredients list is short and simple. There is a ton of research on hypochlorous acid (the main ingredient),  known to many scientists as HOCL. HOCL is an oxidant produced by white blood cells called neutrophils, which are used to control the body’s response to injury and protect it against infection. HOCL is called as the second line of defense, traveling to the site of infection, and destroying the bacteria or pathogens to reduce further harm to the body.

Research shows many skin care advantages from products containing HOCL as an active ingredient:

I was on a trip recently and kept this travel size on hand, it worked well to keep my skin fresh and clean feeling.
I also LOVE the fact that the company donates $1 for every bottle sold to The Lonely Whale Foundation.

Biossance Squalene + Antioxidant Cleansing Oil

I’ve been stoked to try a cleansing oil and this one has some pretty impressive ingredients, like Squalane (plant-derived) and evening primrose, both very beneficial for aging skin. Squalane is an excellent moisturizer and protects the skin from free radical damage. I’ve been using this oil as the first step to remove my makeup, it does a great job, I have had to be careful around my eyes as it did sting slightly. I do have really bad allergies right now and my eyes have been really itchy, so that could be a mitigating factor and something to keep in mind. I have noticed more overall suppleness in my skin. It has a very slippery feel, which I really like, it makes it super easy to rub into the face and clean it well. I also love the fact that you can massage the oil into your face, then rinse with water. It smells really lovely and I think is a great price for the quality and quantity you are buying.

Crave Skincare Oil Cleanser + War Paint Remover and Crave 40 Winks Eye Serum

I am new to this brand but have been enjoying both of these products. They are formulated for sensitive skin. I found the cleansing oil gentle, it removed my makeup really well, my skin felt clean and refreshed and it did not bother my eyes at all. My face also did not feel tight and dry after using it, which I find in some cases can happen after cleansing. You rub the oil onto the face, add a tiny bit of water, it creates this milky emulsion then rinse off.

I love the fact that it contains Black Cumin Oil, I’ve researched this oil in the past and it truly is amazing. It does have a bit of a pungent smell, but I did not find the oil too bad.

The eye serum is pretty good too. It’s super absorbent and I’ve incorporated it into my daily regime, even trying it in the day, which has been great, it does not leave an oily residue and I think its helped with my dark circles (thanks, dad!).

Little Moon Essentials Mineral Bath: Beach All You Want

Get ready for a tropical getaway. I LOOOOVE a good bath and this made me feel like I was sitting near the ocean breathing in all that salty sea goodness. It’s made with Hawaiian Sea Salt and red clay from the island of Kauai, take me there now! After my bath, I felt delightfully uplifted and refreshed. I used the whole package and all I can say is ALOHA!!!

Mudjestic Skincare Mud Face and Body Masque

If you’ve noticed an increase of mask selfies in your Instagram feed, there’s a good reason, according to recent studies from the NPD Group (a market research company), face masks have proven to be progressively popular within the millennial age group.

In fact, they are now buying face masks over any specific anti-ageing products, with sales literally doubling over the last couple of years. And that’s because they work!!

I am a big believer in clay masks, this is one of the lightest masks I have ever tried. I’m drawn to the fact that this company sources their clay locally in the USA. It’s bentonite clay from Aleutian mountains in Alaska, it’s rich in minerals and penetrates your pores pulling out toxins = key to good skin!

My skin felt, firmer, smoother and tighter looking.

I’m a big fan of using masks in your skincare regime at least once a week, as we age our skin takes a beating and giving a little extra TLC will go a long way.

So grab your camera and get #selfie ready eco babes, I will be buying this mud for sure!

Spinster Sisters Co. Rosemary Mint Bar Soap

Shower time just got a whole lot more fun with this soap. One of the most common complaints aimed at soap is that it’s extremely drying on the skin. Not the case with SS, I found it super moisturizing and I feel like I’m getting some exfoliation action as well. My skin feels conditioned, soft and no dryness, the scent is light and lovely and I’d definitely use this soap again. Bonus, the hubs loves it too!

Cleaning Essentials The Original Bottle

nk Dirty Box Review Candice Batista The Eco Hub

Okay you know I LOVE a good DIY around here and this glass spray bottle makes it super easy to replace wasteful store-bought chemical cleaners with all-natural, non-toxic homemade cleaners you can make yourself. Can I get a HALLELUJAH!!!

All you need to do is simply choose a recipe, add ingredients to the fill lines on the bottle, shake, and you’re ready to clean! Every time you mix up a batch of cleaner, you not only eliminate the waste of a plastic bottle – you also avoid the shipping and production costs associated with that bottle and reduce your family’s exposure to toxic chemicals!

Each reusable spray bottle has 5 cleaning recipes printed on the outside. These homemade recipes use naturally aromatic and antibacterial essential oils to replace harsh chemicals. The tile cleaner works well for whitening grout and cleaning tile. The wood cleaner gently and naturally brings out the beauty of wood furniture and floors. The bathroom cleaner is a great antibacterial all-purpose cleaner for not only the bathroom but any room of the house. The ammonia-free glass cleaner works well on any surface that needs a streak-free shine. Finally, the powerful kitchen cleaner is the one to put to work on hard jobs, thanks to its excellent degreasing properties.

Don’t walk! Run to buy this. I love it so much!

I’ve enjoyed getting the Think Dirty June Curated Beauty Box, it’s a great value for what you are getting, there is over $250 (USD) worth of products for $95. And thanks to my friends at Think Dirty, you can get $5 off, just enter the code THEECOHUB. Grab yours here.

Happy Shopping Eco babes!

  1. Just a note some of these products are only available to US residents when you try to buy them on the brand’s website. I wish think dirty would save consumers time & let Canadians know which products we can actually get shipped!
